The NFT community is growing rapidly, welcoming more and more fans to the world of Web3. The popular NFT marketplace OpenSea surpassed 1 million active user wallets in January of this year. Now, these digital collectibles are being embraced by major social media platforms as well.

Learn how four major social platforms are allowing creators and users to create and showcase their NFTs.

How Four Major Social Media Platforms Are Embracing NFTs

Facebook and Instagram

Meta, the parent company to Facebook and Instagram, has shared that its much-anticipated Metaverse will support NFTs. Additionally, Facebook and Instagram are exploring other ways to allow for greater use of NFTs on the platform. This reportedly includes options to display or even mint NFTs on their platforms.

In March 2022, Zuckerberg confirmed that NFTs would be coming soon to Instagram.

“I’m not ready to kind of announce exactly what that’s going to be today. But over the next several months, the ability to bring some of your NFTs in, hopefully over time be able to mint things within that environment,” shared Mark Zuckerberg at South by Southwest 2022.

Twitter

As of January 2022, Twitter users who subscribe to Twitter Blue can now proudly display their favorite token as their profile picture. The feature works by allowing the user to connect their wallet to Twitter, verifying their ownership of the token, and displaying their Twitter NFT PFP in a unique hexagon shape.

YouTube

YouTube’s ever-expanding suite of creator tools will now allow creators to sell their content as NFTs, allowing fans to own a piece of their favorite channels.

YouTube’s Chief Product Officer explains:

“We believe new technologies like blockchain and NFTs can allow creators to build deeper relationships with their fans. Together, they’ll be able to collaborate on new projects and make money in ways not previously possible.”

Reddit

Reddit users can use Snoo, the Reddit mascot, as a PFP on the social media platform. Snoo, a genderless alien representing discovery and understanding across communities, can be customized by Reddit users to showcase their diversity, interests, and passions. Customization of these avatars includes dressing Snoo in various costumes, hair, or teeth (to name a few).

Reddit brought Snoo into the NFT space last year with a series of tokens based on their alien mascot. The CryptoSnoo series of tokens was immediately popular, and users can display their Snoo NFT as their PFP on the platform. Verified Snoo NFTs have a “glow” about them, to distinguish them from the regular custom avatars used by non-NFT holders.

New features like Twitter’s NFT PFPs have already been embraced by the NFT community, and Instagram’s recent announcement indicates that there is more excitement still to come for fans of these digital collectibles.
